Majengo Canada

LYNN CONNELL Founder and President Majengo Canada

Lynn co-founded the Majengo Children’s Home in 2008 by spearheading the fundraising initiatives in Canada and starting Majengo Canada. She continues to work closely in all aspects of Majengo, and visits the kids in Tanzania for 6 weeks each year.

SEANNA CONNELL secretary

Seanna works in community-engaged arts in under-resourced and under-served communities both locally and globally within the not-for-profit/charity sector. She acts as the secretary of Majengo Canada and has visited Majengo on many occasions.

ELIZABETH MURPHY Treasurer

Elizabeth is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA). She first visited Majengo Children’s Home in 2013.

MATT MCKISSOCK Director

Matt founded the Warren Majengo Foundation in 2009, and began all US fundraising at that time. He continues to be involved in all aspects of Majengo and visits twice a year.

JANET MCKELVEY Director

Janet is a businesswoman, and philanthropist. She has raised and disbursed more than $3.5 million to families in need in communities across Canada in her role as executive Director of Canadian Tire’s Foundation for Families. She has chaired and been Director of such boards as the Toronto Public Library Foundation, Shaw Festival Board of Governors, Developing World Connections, and since October 2015, Majengo Canada.

HEIDI WIEBE Director

Heidi has lived and worked in the Canadian Arctic as a regional planner since 2002, managing organizations and capacity building initiatives. Heidi volunteered at Majengo Children’s Home from February 2013 to December 2014, coming to us through ICA CANADA. She joined the Majengo Canada Board in October 2015, and visits Majengo once a year.

PAUL AXELROD Director

Paul is a professor emeritus and former Dean of the Faculty of Education at York University in Toronto. Paul brings a wealth of experience to the board, focusing his expertise towards the individualized guidance and assistance of each one of the Majengo children. Paul visited Majengo in 2013, and joined the board of Majengo Canada in the fall of 2015.

WARREN MAJENGO FOUNDATION

MATT MCKISSOCK President

Matt got involved in the Majengo project right from the beginning, just as Lynn Connell was moving all of the initial children into their first modest home. He founded the Warren Majengo Foundation in 2009 to help support Majengo from his hometown, Warren, PA, and continues to be involved in all aspects of Majengo. Matt and his family typically visit Tanzania twice a year.

IAN ASHBAUGH Secretary

Ian is a pharmacist and owner of the Youngsville Pharmacy in Youngsville, PA. After traveling with Matt McKissock in March 2009 to Tanzania to meet with Lynn Connell and experience first hand the Majengo Orphanage, he became an ardent supporter of the cause and is a board member for the Warren Majengo Foundation.

DIANA MCKISSOCK Treasurer

When Diana’s son Matt became involved with Majengo Children’s Home, she traveled to Majengo and returned home passionate about helping the kids. Diana’s over 25 years of experience as the bookkeeper for her family business comes in handy for the Treasurer position she now holds with Warren Majengo Foundation. In this role, Diana helps with fundraising efforts and office support for the charity.

Majengo Staff

SIMONE LEE HAMILTON Program and Development Director, Majengo Canada

Simone has two bachelor degrees, in Art History and in Education, as well as a postgraduate certificate in Marketing. She began volunteering for Majengo in 2011 and has since spent months at a time living in Tanzania teaching, and providing on the ground support. One quarter of the year, Simone spends time doing program development and oversight on the ground in Tanzania. Her time in Canada is spent fundraising, and project planning.

EMILY ONUFFER Program and Development Director, Warren Majengo Foundation

Emily spent 20 years working for McKissock Real Estate and Appraisal School. She started as a Customer Service Representative and worked her way up through the company until she became the Product Director of Appraisal Education. In 2016 she resigned her role at McKissock to begin full time work at WMF. She spends her time fundraising and program planning in Warren, PA.

Both Majengo Canada and Warren Majengo Foundation have one staff member each. All board members are unpaid.
