As stated by the UN, The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 interlinked objectives designed as a “shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future”. Through our actions as an organization and the programs we initiate– we use the SDG’s to guide us. We believe this is the only way to eventually promote equality and put an end to the cycle of poverty.

While there are 17 SDGs, Majengo focuses primarily on 9, both through our projects and programs, and through our actions as an organization. These 9 goals help guide our strategic plans and help us ensure our programs are effective harbingers of change.

While MCH exists in a vulnerable community beset by severe and systemic poverty, our programs aim to help provide physical support to those in need when appropriate and provide capacity building opportunities to improve capabilities which in turn will help to reduce poverty over time.

MCH promotes Zero Hunger by not only providing food subsidies and food security programs, but also through training programs for interested community members about Livestock Keeping and Agriculture which helps farmers and pastoralists know how to make the most out of their assets.

Majengo promotes health and well-being within all programs through the provision of medical attention and mental health support. Additionally, through our community development initiatives we run clinics where we see 1000s of patients for common health concerns and vaccinations. We also provide health related training and education to children, young adults, and families.

Majengo promotes quality education for all children in its programming and aims to improve schools in the surrounding area through special projects. These types of projects include provision of books, desks, chairs, or beds or building necessary facilities at schools like dormitories to help improve the quality of education for every student.

Majengo promotes gender equality through all our programming by emphasizing equal opportunity for everyone. However, recognizing that girls and women are very often more vulnerable or more disadvantaged in the community, we also host female focused training programs focusing on topics like Female Genital Mutilation, Feminine Hygiene and Reproductive Health or Domestic Violence. We promote period equality and access to female health care. We also have Maasai Girl Programs which aim to empower girls in the Maasai community who are arguably the most vulnerable as they are not encouraged to go to school and are often married and pregnant very young.

At Majengo we provide clean water to everyone. We use rainwater harvesting to water our plants to ensure that we are not wasting any water at all. Additionally, we often support special projects to improve sanitation in the community such as our Majengo Primary Toilet Project, or our Rainwater Harvesting Project at Mwita Secondary School.

We offer productive employment to many people in the community surrounding Majengo to promote economic growth in the immediate area. We also hire informal workers from the community who have limited transferable skills to help at Majengo when appropriate. This helps these workers provide to their families. We provide fair pay, health insurance and other benefits at Majengo including food security to those at the centre whether they are full-time employees or temporary.

At Majengo we use as many sustainable methods for food production as possible to not only create a self-sustaining system but also to limit the amount of food waste. These systems help provide food and milk to the children and to the community.

"Our biggest challenge in this new century is to take the idea that seems abstract - sustainable development - and turn it into a reality for all the world's people.
